Female Red-Tailed Hawk in nest Sept 30, 2011
Ann Red-tail,
A few days ago, Big Mama landed on her nest, whereupon she was
attacked from below by squirrels who live in the tree.
Her wings kept opening and closing. She then flew to the
spruce across the street. She is home for a while, I guess.
Cooper's hawks seen this morning over Warden Avenue.
Lots of feathers.
Luv,
Diane

Female Red-Tailed Hawk seen
A note from Diane. The two juvenile red-tailed hawks have left the area but the adults are still seen occassionally. Ann
Ann Red-Tail,
I was crossing the hydro field on Brian Avenue when who should
appear but Big Mama! She flew out of an adjacent backyard and
landed on the hydro tower next to the road. The local birds
immediately started attacking, but she seemed very serene. We
haven't seen Egbert at all.
See ya,
Diane

J venile red-tail hawks today July 17 2011
Juvenile Red-Tail Hawk Charlene (female) captured a rat in the field. She was enjoying the tail on the rat. (I did a double check to see if any rats were near me as I only had on flip flops)
Gary, Diane and I were thrilled to see both juveniles today. They looked hot but very healthy.
Young Chance (male) was flying around the hydro towers.

Red Tailed Eyas staying close to nest. June 28, 2011
Ann Red-tail,
Big Mama was hunting in the hydro field this morning, no sign of male. Chance and Charlene were hanging around in the spruce tree
and on Cheryl and Dave's TV antenna, braying for food and looking good. Photos are awesome, hawk lady!

Red-tailed Eyas fledge - Report from Diane. June 24, 2011
Ann Red-Tail,
Update: Charlene flew like a dream on the solstice (June 21) and Chance flew within 24 hours (saw him next day with Big Mama on spruce tree), but he might have flown on the solstice as well because there was no one in the nest in the early evening of that day.
They were in the elm tree out back with Big Mama when I left to come here (library). They are eating like little porkers, especially Charlene who mantles her food whenever Mama or Chance come near it.
The neighbourhood folks are quite excited. I keep running into people who are avid admirers of the family and I give them the website and the first thing they tell me is what
a great photo you took of Gary and I.
Great landscapes, by the way. Looking forward to see you soon.
Luv, Diane
